A simple question

If the Pirates fail to win 82 games this year, will you consider 2011 a success due to the fact that they have surpassed last season's total?

  1. The simple answer is maybe and no. No, because they only needed to reach 58 wins to reach that milepost. I've been steadfast; if they win 78-plus games this year, it represents a step in the right direction, although one that I would rather they made last year.

They haven't won more than 78 games since 2004, meaning the last three years of Littlefield's tenure and the first three of Huntington's. In fact, they haven't lost fewer than 90 games in that span, either. If they wind up with 78 wins, Huntington should get one more year...but if they falter, he should be fired before the end of May.

  2. This season turned into a big disappointment because of what happened in late July, early August. The epic fall from 1st to 10 games out ruined for me what had been a pleasantly surprising season.

I was not counting on them even making the playoffs but who didn't think they might end up over .500 for the season. That dream is now over, too.

  3. being that Coonelly, Huntington, et al. have stated the goal is to win championships, then this year is not a success.

Yes there was 2 months of good baseball.
    Yes some players progressed.
Yes, hope was restored for some, even if it was short-lived.

But as long as our Pirates have a talent deficiency at most positions, the results will always be lacking.

    Extend NH/FC? NO!
They have reached 360 losses (and counting) in less than 4 years. Enough is enough.
And being their "salvation" --- the minors --- are no better than before they got here, well they cant save their jobs with that, either.

I was happy the Bucs did well in June/July, but now I will be happy when a new FO comes in.
This one has failed, for whatever reason, and new blood is needed, fairly or unfairly.
