Circling the Drain

I don't know what to say after last night's disgusting performance. I do know that I wanted to wipe that smirk off of Correia's face in between Soto and Soriano's HRs to put the game completely out of reach. The Bucs are treading water and the sharks are circling, mouths watering, waiting for that first drop of blood.

There is still time left for this team to turn it around, after all: It's always darkest just before the dawn, right?

Maybe not........

  1. And some wanted to sell out for Hunter Pence. Hopefully people are learning the difference between a contender and a pretender. To think the Pirates should have been this huge buyer at the deadline is to be uninformed...this team has zero chance at doing anything but breaking the streak this year. That is the goal.

Whoever said Jerry Meals ended our season on this blog was right. 1-7 since then I believe.

  2. Dan,

Go read Daq's post on Smizblog. The Phillies didn't have to sell out for Pence. They gave up next to nothing.

Even if they are pretenders, the Pirates would have had 2 more years of control, which would have improved the Pirates of 2012 and 2013.

The real truth is that they didn't want to pay Pence what he would get in arbitration the next 2 years.

  3. Sharky:

Agreed! They didnt want to pay the $$$$, so "prospects" became the excuse.

And Pence would have been a great start to build around for the next 2 years. But the 125 guaranteed future HOF prospects couldnt be touched, so pffffffffft!

And outside of taillon, and Heredia, who exactly would other teams want?? I mean, the minors are so "stocked", shouldnt all 29 other teams be beating down our door???

Another aspect to consider with all this nonsense that our prospects are all golden and have to be protected like Fort Knox is this:
Is this a smokescreen to take away the draft choice signings this year?? Havent heard anything yet, and I know the deadline is approaching..............

  4. Yeah,

What is up with that roger? I have not heard word one about signing draft picks and I believe there are less than 2 weeks left to do it in. Who was that 2nd rounder they drafted who didn't want to be drafted? How much you wanna bet that guy doesn't sign?

  5. "Go read Daq's post on Smizblog. The Phillies didn't have to sell out for Pence. They gave up next to nothing."

The Phillies don't play in the NL Central. The asking price for Pittsburgh was much much more. Notice the Cards, Brewers, and Reds didn't acquire him either. Just Like Colby Rasmus and Michael Bourn weren't traded within the division either.

The point is what the Phillies gave up for Pence is irrelevant. It's an entirely different situation when it comes to Astros-Pirates.

Has anyone seen that David guy on SmizBlog today? He's fucking crazy! Keeps rambling about his coaching experience in fucking little league makes him better than everyone and as such he knows that Alvarez is fat lazy and doesn't respect the game. Guy is a classic example of a racist that's too afraid to say so. Instead of just saying what he wants and calling him a lazy beaner like half this town wants to do, they make shit up. Unbelievable. Typical fucked-up Pittsburgh.

  6. Roger,

"And Pence would have been a great start to build around for the next 2 years."

I agree, would have loved to have him. The asking price (in terms of the return, not the $$$$) was too high. It's really that simple and everyone needs to get over it.

I think a few draft picks have signed. That piratesprospects site has a tracker. http://players.piratesprospects.com/2011-pittsburgh-pirates-draft-pick-signing-tracker

They've signed 7 of their top 10 and 20 overall, which shocks the hell out of me cause I haven't heard any of it reported. But there's no conspiracy or attempts to keep things quiet. It's just that these signings aren't big newsmakers until it gets close to the deadline and you see what kind of crop you have.

  7. "The asking price for Pittsburgh was much much more."

Really? Do you have proof of that or is it pure speculation on your part?

I find it funny that you get on Anti's on Bob's blog for speculating and then you come on here and make wild accusations without any proof whatsoever.

  8. Sharky, it was reported in the Trib. Also, Walt Jocketty said the same thing when asked why he didn't acquire Bourn or Pence for the Reds.

    Now shut up :-).

  9. So it was much, much more? What the hell is much much more? How do you know it wasn't a little more? You don't, you are exaggerating to make a point.

I don't get to say it on Smizblog because it gets deleted, but you are an asshole on there. Your treatment of David because of his opinion today was ridiculous. Then to bitch about him on here where he can't defend himself, douchebag move.

Aren't you the one who claimed on Smizblog to be so smart because you had a journalism degree? Then you complained that David was talking about himself. WOW you are an asshole.

  10. I wasn't the only one all over him. There were several, including Smizik. But I can't call him a racist over there because it gets deleted. Same reason you can't call me an asshole over there. Also, you bitched about me on here before I started reading these posts so Christ could you be more of a hypocrite?

If you don't like my posts then I dunno, fuck off? Aren't you like twice my age anyways? Go sit on it and twist old man, you have no room to talk anyways with the way you treat a lot of people over there.

    Loser.

  11. I wasn't going to help you with your research but since you probably have trouble using your Google machine here's the quote from the Reds' web site.

"One of the players the Reds were in talks for was speedy outfielder and leadoff hitter Michael Bourn. Negotiations stalled because Houston's demands were viewed as too high. Bourn was traded to the Braves on Sunday for outfielder Jordan Schafer and three Minor Leaguers, but none that were considered elite prospects.

It appeared that the Astros were reluctant to make a trade with another NL Central club.

"I think that was a big part of it," Jocketty said. "I think that's why they asked for a lot more from us than what they got."

There's your "proof". Now quit it with the wahhh wahhh wahhhhhmbulance act. If you still don't get it then nobody is going to be shocked.

Call me an asshole? Ha. Look who's talking.

  12. It is a fallacy to say that the Phillies didn't give up much and that the Pirates could've gotte him cheaply. It looks like it would have cost at least Taillon, Marte and 2 other prospects. That is alot to give up for someone who wouldn't really make a difference. Pence is mediocre outside of the bandbox he plays in.

Dog - We've got everything on you.....ha!....Stay up all night trying to figure out what I mean.

  14. Daq,
If you think I care what you have on me you're nuts.

  15. Asshole Dan,

First of all if you think I'm stupid enough to list real stats about myself on an internet profile, you are even dumber than I had previously thought. I don't put anything close to accurate when I make those profiles because I would get some nutcase like you or SAJU stalking me.

Secondly, that is your proof? "It appeared" and "I think". That is not proof and if you actually had a degree in journalism as you claim, you would realize that your statements are nothing but conjecture. If an anti posted that as proof you would be all over them on Smizblog. I find it funny that you expect more of Antis than you do of yourself.

Or are you actually Dan Fox? That would explain alot.

  16. Sharky,

I'd appreciate it if you keep me out of these stupid discussions you're having because, like you said to Dan earlier, "Then to bitch about him on here where he can't defend himself, douchebag move." Hell man, you just did the same thing regarding me. You just can't help it can you.

I know it's hard for you to not be a hypocrite, but give it a whirl.

I was just alerted to this place, and it may not be a half bad place to talk about sports if it weren't for you ruining nearly every discussion trying to figure out who Dog is, going along with your "gotcha" comments, and just generalized being an ornery and obtuse individual.

I saw where the blog owners and writers don't want to censor things etc, and that's great, but guys, your sports blog is getting ruined by the likes of Sharky and it's not gonna amount to much if you let this continue. Who's gonna want to come on here and talk sports if it's gonna be like this? Get some control. I mean, is this a sports blog for people to BS on or a junior high parking lot fight?

    Take care guys.
