Jerry Meals Sucks

Honestly, that's all I can really say. A game like that  decided on an umpire's terrible call is disgraceful. Downright pitiful, actually. It was amateur hour for the Braves and their fans all night, complaining every time they weren't given the Economy sized strike zone they've become accustomed to over the years.

Hurdle should argue the first call Meals makes tonight, then drop him with a Stone Cold Stunner and chug a beer at home plate.

Also, we need offense ASAP. Overbay and Alvarez were a combined 2 for 15. Unreal, thats our lefty power. Both had chances to win the game for us. Cutch was 0 for 6, too. Kdro also notched his 9th error in 38 games when he threw a ball into the stands and struck out 4 times, choking under pressure many times throughout.

WE NEED OFFENSE NOW

  1. The Pirates lose in a devastating fashion on a close play at the plate in Atlanta. That does not take me back to a good place. What a horrible rotten way to end an epic ballgame. Still, although it is rightful outrage over one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen, the Pirates had plenty of opportunities to win that game before Julio Lugo was out twice before he was safe. I do have to tip my cap to Daniel McCutchen. How many times do you see a game where both teams bring in a relief pitcher who goes as long, and in McCutchen’s case a third of an inning longer, than their starters? Wow, what a game.

  2. I think your lead in headline is quite proper. “Jerry Meals Sucks” hits the mark. The guy had many players rolling their eyes all night with his constant ever changing strike zone. And this guy is the senior member of that umpiring crew!

I can’t find any fault with the actions of McKenry on the play; you get in and get out on that tag, no sense leaving the glove around for the runner to knock the ball away.

The long awaited appearance of savior Steve Pearce was vastly overrated. This guy should be sent on down the road with Overbay.

My head scratcher of the game was the suicide squeeze. I don’t remember who was pitching at the time, but you usually suicide with a left hander on the mound. He cannot see the runner breaking towards the plate. In any event, you also put yourself at a disadvantage with a lefty batter in Paul. The catcher has an open view of the runner coming towards him.

What more does the FO need to see before they make a move to get some offense? A few moves should have been done long ago.

I really hope all the players took notice of the effort put forth by McCutchen. Pitching his heart out and especially the hustle in running down the line.
